Education
Financial literacy is extremely important, yet widely ignored. We attempt to make learning about insurance and investments a fun and positive experience. Pass it on.
Education
Did you ever notice how you were just thrown into adulthood with no idea how to manage your financial situation, protect yourself or your future while everything around you seems so complex? Isn’t that a weird concept? To trial and error your way into financial stability? We go to school for years and learn more about what spider silk is made of, how to sew buttons on shirts, Shakespeare…
why don’t we spend more time learning anything about the single largest factor our lives will depend on: money.
We don’t learn how to earn it, invest it, protect it or budget it.
In general we learn a little about taxes and rates of return; the difference between simple and compound interest. We learn about the concept of life insurance and a vague idea of why it is an important idea. We learn that stock markets are scary. We learn to pay our mortgages off just as quickly as we possibly can. We learn from second hand and tertiary sources a huge number of things, most of which are wrong, that scare the wits out of us. So much so that we blindly push the responsibility off on someone else.
I am not here to tell you that sewing buttons isn’t important, or that Shakespeare isn’t vital; but I will tell you that financial literacy is one of the most important life skills one can have.
I am also going to tell you that educating yourself about investments, insurance, finance and everything around you does not have to be boring. We can have fun, we can learn, and we can have a positive experience.
One of our most important jobs as advisors is to be educators, and we at FVI take pride in working with our clientele to ensure they are knowledgeable and comfortable knowing they are making good decisions.
For the last ten years we have hosted near a hundred client educational events in both Calgary and Edmonton. We provide you an incredible meal, excellent education and the best part is you are not alone in this experience. We have worked hard to create a positive environment to learn in, with excellent presenters to teach us, and (luckily for us) a community that is hungry for learning.
If you are wondering what this is all about, give us a shout and join us at our next event.
Future you will thank you for it.
